I first met Kris when I was seeking my appointment to fill a vacant position for County Legislator in Rhinebeck-Clinton. Since my initial meeting with him, he has been one of my strongest sources of information, guidance, advice and support in the Legislature. His understanding of the multitude of complex parts that make up the operation of County government is unparalleled. We need the kind of long-term knowledge Kris has and also his ability to express that knowledge to his colleagues and his constituents. Additionally, his ability to share and work with his colleagues is equally as impressive.

To offer you a concrete example: I always turn to Kris during the busy – and often confusing – Budget season. His command of the intricate pieces of the HUGE County budget is unparalleled. This is critical to our work because the budget is carefully crafted by the Republican Administration to convey only information they want shared with constituents and voters and often conceals unwise financial practices, lack of funding in critical areas, etc. Equally impressive is his ability to make the budget understandable for his constituents. His Facebook videos are simply fantastic – and easy to digest. He is an excellent communicator.

Kris is a valued colleague who is always there to do the hard work we undertake as the minority caucus in the County Legislature. To lose him would be a tragedy for Democrats across the County – as his experience is critical to the successes we achieve as a Caucus. I urge you to do everything within your power to make sure he is re-elected, including endorsing him in the upcoming primary. Thank you.

Recently, when I raised concerns about the lack of parity and clarity in designating boards required to complete annual financial disclosure statements under the county’s ethics code, Kris personally followed up to ensure my questions were addressed. When he learned they weren’t, he partnered with me to research the issue thoroughly. Our collaborative effort convinced the Republican caucus to postpone the resolution and reconsider their decision-making criteria. [I should note that Kris has been doggedly spearheading efforts to increase transparency for years!]

Kris possesses a deep understanding of legislative processes and is a strategic thinker. Additionally, his advice on constituent outreach as well as his [famous] YouTube videos clearly show his commitment to his constituents: he is both responsible and responsive. I wholeheartedly urge you to join me in endorsing him.

I am proud to endorse Kris Munn as the Democratic Candidate for Dutchess County District 20 County Legislator. Even before he was redistricted to represent part of the Town of Rhinebeck, Kris has been an invaluable ally. Whether fighting the County GOP legislators’ ridiculous move to increase County sales tax, working to restoring our County Bus routes in rural Rhinebeck, or calling out the GOP for using $25 million of President Biden’s ARPA Funding to make luxury renovations to the Dutchess Stadium, Kris is the loud, progressive, and seasoned voice we need in Poughkeepsie.

As some of you know I worked in Red Hook local politics for over 20 years (15 as chair of the Democratic Party) and worked with people like Kris to move Red Hook from a town where (like many towns in this country) large landowners used their positions in Town government to make a profit on real estate, to a town where our local government worked largely for the benefit of the whole community, passing bipartisan legislation that became a model across the country to protect farms, open space and water quality.

Regarding Kris, I have known and worked with him for over 20 years and can say that the attacks on him are at best misguided and at worst, basically lies. He has overcome challenges in his personal and family life that he never mentions, to become one of the strongest and most effective people working in local government; in addition to Sarahana and the Working Families party backing him, the endorsement statements from his colleagues on the County Legislature tell the story better than I can. As one said, “to lose him would be a tragedy for Democrats across the County.”

What the Democratic minority on the County legislature has accomplished is in spite of the fact that not only have they been in the minority for most of the last two decades, but that in our County government the legislature exists primarily as an advisory board to the County Executive who can largely act unilaterally as he or she pleases.
